Concha y Toro conducts a successful Masterclass to promote D.O. Puente Alto in the UK alongside The Drinks Business

In collaboration with the British wine-specialized publication, The Drinks Business, a comprehensive Masterclass on the Puente Alto Designation of Origin took place in London.

Viña Concha y Toro, in partnership with the world’s leading beverage trade magazine The Drinks Business, organized a Masterclass on the prestigious Puente Alto Designation of Origin, now known as the birthplace of the world’s best high-end Cabernet Sauvignon.

This event was led by Marcelo Papa, Technical Director of Concha y Toro, and Patrick Schmitt, Master of Wine and Editor-in-Chief of the magazine. They conducted a thorough Masterclass on the Puente Alto Designation of Origin in Chile, attended by more than 35 participants, including journalists, educators, sommeliers, and consultants.

In 1883, Viña Concha y Toro planted the first pre-phylloxera vines in Puente Alto. To reflect our entire history and tradition in this terroir, Marcelo Papa led a tasting where the 2020 and 2021 vintages of Marques de Casa Concha Heritage were sampled.

Marcelo Papa commented: “With this new masterclass, we aim to continue promoting D.O. Puente Alto worldwide as one of the places that gives rise to the best Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines. Its terroir, coupled with its unique soil and climate qualities, provides the perfect conditions for crafting Marques de Casa Concha Heritage“.

During the masterclass, the more than 35 attendees had the opportunity to taste our wines and delve into all the characteristics that make Puente Alto a world-class terroir.

“It was a great privilege for Marcelo Papa to personally present Puente Alto wines to the UK trade. He showcased the key aspects of the Puente Alto terroir, from soils to climate, perfectly describing what makes this part of Chile so special for Cabernet Sauvignon. It was an eye-opener, particularly in viticulture, seeing how aspect, rootstocks, and own-rooted vines affect the character of Cabernet in Alto Maipo. It was a great opportunity for education on viticultural research and development”, said The Drinks Business Editor-in-Chief, Patrick Schmitt.

With this masterclass in London, Viña Concha y Toro aims to continue organizing activations like this to further position D.O. Puente Alto as the birthplace of the world’s best Cabernet Sauvignon.
