Concha & Toro Legacy
Don Melchor de Concha y Toro, the seventh Marques de Casa Concha, forged the vision that has been passed down through generations to create the best wines from the unique, renowned vineyards of the Puente Alto terroir.
The story of a tradition
The legacy of a Marquis
Birth of Don Melchor de Santiago Concha y Toro, the vineyard’s founder, descendant of Don José de Santiago Concha y Salvatierra, and who became the Seventh Marques de Casa Concha.
Don Melchor married Emiliana Subercaseaux Vicuña, daughter of Ramón Subercaseaux Mercado and Magdalena Vicuña, and who inherited from her father the El Llano de Pirque property located on the banks of the Maipo River, at the foot of the Andes Mountains.
Don Melchor put his wife, Emiliana, in charge of building a family estate on the land she had inherited, and they planted the first Bordeaux vines there. He contacted French winemaker, Monsieur Louis-Joseph Bachelet, to lead this new project.
Viña Concha y Toro was founded.

Viña Concha y Toro launched the Marqués de Casa Concha brand in honor of Don Melchor de Santiago Concha y Toro, the winery’s founder and Seventh Marqués de Casa Concha, immediately positioning itself as a noble and traditional wine.
The prestigious US magazine Wine & Spirits recognizes Puente Alto as one of the top 25 vineyards in the world. Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon 2000 appears for the first time in the Wine Spectator Top 100 ranking.
45 years after the launch of Marqués de Casa Concha, Viña Concha y Toro released a wine to represent the legacy of the family and the terroir.
